Here in Dyer County, it is illegal to sell alcoholic beverages before noon on Sundays.

Here in Dyer County, behind every cashier at every grocery store on every Sunday morning is a shopping cart or three full of six packs, 12-packs, 30-packs, and cases. These Dyer County cashiers know the routine: They ring up all of your groceries without question, then as slick 'n casual as genuflecting in church they lift your alcoholic beverage selection into one of the carts, then turn around and say, "Sorry, sug [short for sugar], kin't bah likker 'fore noon on Sundees. Got a couple hours yet."

Here in Dyer County, here's what gets me: I'm a stranger in town, and obviously have been retarded by my assumptions that if something is on display in a store with a sale price sticker affixed to it then it is for sale. My economics class obviously taught me nothing. But, here in Dyersburg, Dyer County, Tennessee, these cashiers have carts and carts behind them...just how many strangers do they get on a typical Sunday morning at 9:30?
